REACH RESEARCH – INTRODUCTION

Reach has been making a positive contribution to the mental health and personal growth movement for nearly 35 years but the research that underpins our philosophy and practice, and in fact led to our conception, has been going for over 40 years. When we use the term research we are referring to a thorough examination of the empirical and experiential data, covering the objective and subjective dimensions.  We are not merely concerned with modernity, our exploration goes back hundreds, and in some cases thousands, of years.  This is because we believe the past has so much to teach us – and humankind, in the name of progress, has unfortunately thrown the baby out with the bath water!  Our research examines the key characters in the human story, including but not limited to the sciences, philosophy, anthropology, spirituality, metaphysics, psychology, religion, history and environmental studies (geography, migration, climate).

We believe that it’s only by studying these diverse and in some cases complex topics, looking carefully at where they converge, that we can begin to make sense of who we are and understand the evolution of our dysfunctional traits and patterns.  Then the journey of positive transformation begin.  Unfortunately, the concept of silos has overthrown the notion of synergy. We have become trapped, trying to make sense of where we find ourselves in the world, looking predominantly to one body of knowledge to provide all our answers.  We have become caught up in chasing the symptoms, never truly identifying the root causes, which is where our solutions are to be found.

Experience has taught us that no one subject is the Holy Grail. Siloism has limited our personal development and the expansion of our consciousness. Competition has triumphed over collaboration. In the name of progress we’ve traded away our humility, humanity and ancestral heritage. There is so much the past has to teach us, so if we are to the make best of the present we need to start listening…. Through our work we have tried to give antiquity its rightful place alongside modernity, so we hope you enjoy our research.   We’ve posted a few examples of our work in this section of the site for your consumption (please check out the sidebar to see what’s on offer).
